Well-dressed shoppers crowd around the flea market tables, oohing and aahhing over the ‘vintage collectibles’ and ‘retro chic’ at every spot. You peek over their shoulders to see what all the fuss is about, and spot a broken plastic toy and an orange knit sweater vest as worn by the cast of the Lawrence Welk show. And the flea market vendor stands there with a big grin on his face, raking in the cash.

Choose the Right Flea Market to Sell Your Products
Written by Flea Market Mama on January 19, 2010 – 3:13 pm -Choosing the correct flea market or swap meet to sell at is just as important as choosing saleable merchandise. There are many different types of flea markets, and each one is a perfect fit for a different type of flea market vendor.
The One Time Weekend Flea Market
The one time weekend flea market or swap meet will often be held at a church, school, or organization like a firehouse or community center. Most of the vendors that come here will be regular people who want to sell off some of their old things. These types of flea markets are akin to
community yard or garage sales.

New Texas Flea Market Added
Written by Flea Market Mama on January 17, 2010 – 8:25 pm -No directory of Texas flea markets could be complete without the tri-location powerhouse or Trader’s Village. With locations in Houston, Grand Prairie and San Antonio, Trader’s Village boasts over 5 million shoppers every year.
Vendors can drive into the market and set up at their selection of tables, booths, kiosks and even push carts. Reservered spaces are available by the week, month or even a lifetime.
Have you ever been to Trader’s Village? I’d love to hear your review.
The website boasts that Trader’s Village turns into “city within a city, complete with a top notch RV Park, kiddie rides and games, ATM machines, stroller and wheelchair rental, snack stands, restaurants, mobile beverage carts, covered rest areas, modern restrooms, and all types of special amenities not found anywhere else,” every weekend.
It sounds like the place to be if you want to shop – or sell! – at a Texas-sized venue.

How to Get Your Customers to Buy More Off-Season
Written by Flea Market Mama on January 4, 2010 – 3:25 pm -Any flea market vendor who sells regularly throughout the warmer months may dread the slow-down in income that comes during the winter. This is really only applicable to the northern part of the US, although bad weather increases in winter across the country.
The best way to get your customers to buy more off-season is by giving them either a brochure with regular updates or creating an online presence.
The brochure method costs more. Why? Because you have to design and print out an actual piece of paper and mail it off to people who signed up to be on the newsletter list. Black and white printing from your computer is cheaper, and xeroxing is cheaper still, but the images may not do your products any justice.
Building an online presence for the off-season of flea market selling is an ideal solution. Every purchase made during the regular flea market day should include a website address. This can be on a business card or simply printed out in big, block letters on a sheet of paper. Sticking these in the plastic bags you hand out with your products is a great way to advertise.
Over the course of th next few weeks, I will be exploring the major internet possibilities for online flea market profits.
