Cold Weather Flea Market Tips

Written by Flea Market Mama on November 24, 2009 – 3:05 pm -

September in the northern part of the United States is still summer. The only possible chill you may experience as a September flea market vendor is in the very early morning when you are setting up your table by moonlight. Of course, some flea markets have later times when you are allowed to enter the grounds, so the chill won’t come into play this month.

Sell Houseplants at Your Local Flea Market for Big Profit

Written by Flea Market Mama on November 19, 2009 – 3:03 pm -

Summertime is time for profit at the flea market. Vendors struggling to come up with a new line of merchandise may consider selling houseplants at the flea market. No special licenses or permits are needed to sell houseplants in a small business venue. This business is very inexpensive to set up and maintain, although the length of time until you have a viable crop of houseplants may be long.

An Exploration of Online Flea Markets

Written by Flea Market Mama on November 16, 2009 – 3:21 pm -

Over the next couple of weeks, Flea Market Mama will be reviewing several popular online flea market venues. Now that the winter is coming and cold weather is already here in the northeastern US, online flea markets offer a good way to keep your profits up all year round without getting frostbite. Let’s face it. Not too many shoppers brave the frigid weather to go to the flea market looking for a bargain either.

Before it gets bitterly cold in December, January and February, you flea market vendors can still cash in on people looking for cheap holiday presents. If you sell items that can be considered great gifts, you should stick it out even in the chilly weather. Indeed, you can make it work to your advantage. Find a wholesaler for wooly hats and gloves and add them to your table. I sold stretchy, one-size-fits-all gloves on my flea market table from late September till December and sold out every weekend. Made 100% profit on them too. :)

But… if you just don’t like the cold, or if the shopper base dwindles too much, consider bringing your flea market online.

Keep your eyes on the blog before Thanksgiving for some reviews that can help you decide where to set up shop on the internet.

Investing in Closeout Wholesale Liquidation Merchandise

Written by Flea Market Mama on November 15, 2009 – 2:59 pm -

Flea market and swap meet vendors, as well as those who sell at online venues such as auctions and ecommerce sites, will benefit from finding closeout wholesale liquidation merchandise at low cost. Investment on these items is way lower since it is a combination of two factors – you get
the merchandise at low wholesale prices and the seller is most interested in disposing of all extra inventory. The more eager the seller, the greater the chance of impressive profits.

Is it too early for Christmas shopping?

Written by Flea Market Mama on November 2, 2009 – 4:49 pm -

Anyone in the northern United States may find the pickings slim at flea markets these days. If you do venture forth, well wrapped in hat and coat, you will find the most hardy of flea market vendors still hawking their wares from table in both. In fact, as an ex-full-time flea market vendor, I can tell you that the period between Labor Day and Thanksgiving is quite a great time to sell.christmasball leocub

During this time people start hunting for top quality or unique Christmas and holiday presents for low, low prices.

If you are a flea market vendor, now is the time to bust out the tinsel and fake holly sprigs and use the holiday spirit that is just beginning to burst free to increase your sales. Most people are not done with their Christmas shopping, or gift buying for Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and winter solstice celebrations, by the beginning of November. Since many people search for truly unique and thoughtful gifts, it might be the perfect time to shift some of those items that had little interest the rest of the year.

Christmas shopping at the flea market might not have been something people thought about in years past. With the struggling economy and the upswing in flea market popularity, more people will remember these unique sales venues when it comes to gift buying. Take advantage of this.

Make an extra effort to decorate your flea market table for the winter holiday season. Wear a Santa hat or a tinsel boa around your neck. Remember all the things in shopping centers and malls to get people in the holiday buying spirit. Flea market vendors can do the same thing to increase sales and shift more merchandise before the weather gets too miserable to bear.
